GUADALQUIVIR RIVER SANLUCAR DE BARRAMEDA

eaving base port (Puerto Sherry) Cadiz, Puerto Santa María, Rota, Chipiona or Sancti Petri at 11:00 am, you will make a sea tour by the Costa de la Luz, discovering the different virgin sceneries still alive until arriving to the estuary of Guadalquivir River. You will enjoy the beautiful sites and wildlife of both sides, on one bank Doñana National Park and on the other the emblematic city of Sanlucar de Barrameda. Towards 1870, the small village of fishermen was known as “Choza de Ubreva” (Ubreva’s Hut) because of one of its villagers’ name. Later, it would be known as Pago de Guía, because of the Chapel of “Nuestra Señora de Guía”, which was located in the way to the Barrio de los Gallegos (Galician Neighbourhood). Its definite name is settled in 1881, and since 1885 the number of huts making up the village has increased.

CHIPIONA’S LIGHTHOUSE (CHIPIONA)

Leaving base port (Puerto Sherry) at 12:00 am, you will make a sea tour by the Costa de la Luz, discovering the different virgin sceneries still alive till Chipiona. You will discover the so-called “Corrales” ancient fish pens dated from 15th Century, where fishermen used to catch their fishes when the tide went down. This city is famous by its monument to the Virgin of Regla, as well as by the Spanish popular singer Rocío Jurado. Chipiona’s lighthouse is a landfall lighthouse located at the “Punta del Perro de Chipiona”, Cadiz, Spain. It is a first order lighthouse, the highest in Spain, the third highest in Europe and the fifth in the World, measuring 62 metres on the ground. Its construction was ordered in the year 140 BC by the proconsul Quinto Servilio Cepio, in order to safe seafarers, pretending to go upriver the river Betis, from Salmedina reefs: Hence Turris Caepionis and from Caepionis, Chipiona. The first written notice from the existence of these “corrales” dates from 16th July, 1399.

CASTLE OF SANCTI PETRI

Leaving from the base port (Puerto Sherry) you will cruise through the beaches of the South of Cadiz, passing by the military Fort of La Carraca and arriving to the Ancestral Castle of Sancti Petri, where you will stop over and swim next to the monumental Historical Constructions dated from 16th to 18th Centuries, temple of “Hercules Gaditano”.

The small island of Sancti Petri is sited at the South edge of San Fernando and is located at the southern estuary of Sancti Petri’s channel, therefore its name. Formerly, it was linked to the island of Cadiz by a road which, today, has disappeared due to the erosion of the sea. Nowadays, you can still find some ruins of this road.
